BICTON HORSE TRIALS 2007 IS CANCELLED
The Clinton Devon Estates’ plans to relocate their new management centre offices to Bicton Arena in 2007 will reflect that not only will Bicton Arena become the shop window for the Estate, but also acknowledge their commitment to restore the Grade 1 listed parkland. To restore the listed parkland, the Estate has entered into a binding legal agreement with the planning authority over the future management of the parkland and trees. The outer parkland now forms part of the Clinton Devon Farms Partnership and as such this parkland, which will include the additional land used in past years for stabling and the cross country course, will now be part of a working farm.
The building of the new management centre offices and the new shower block in the outer parkland will commence in February 2007 and the contractors will be undertaking major ground work over areas that are of prime importance to the organisation of the Trials. This work will continue throughout the preparation and during the Trials.
In the interest of health and safety, and the high standard of presentation and organisation our sponsors, competitors and visitors have enjoyed at Bicton Horse Trials for the past 30 years, we have reluctantly cancelled the 2007 event. The future of Bicton Horse Trials will be announced after we have fully assessed the implications of the restoration plans, but in any event we have withdrawn our application for a CIC*** in 2008 and thereafter as we will not meet the criteria.
